French Jews Lead Immigration to Israel

France is the leading country from which Jewish people are immigrating to Israel – making Aliyah. It is followed in the rankings by Russia, Ukraine and the USA. The Jewish Agency is expecting over 6,000 French Jews, about 1% of France’s entire Jewish population, to immigrate to Israel in 2014. This is mainly a result of antisemitism and threats. France is also the European country with the largest Muslim population - about five million. (Ynet)

Please pray for the safety and protection of France’s Jewish communities.

Israeli Boy Killed by Rocket Just Before Shabbat

On Shabbat, over 80 rockets slammed into Israel's south and central regions - even activating the sirens at Ben Gurion Airport.  The Iron Dome intercepted many rockets that were headed towards civilian areas, and the rest fell in open spaces. Both Israeli and Palestinian leaders have been invited back to Cairo to continue talks regarding another cease-fire. Sadly, on Friday before the Sabbath began, a young Israeli boy was killed by a rocket as he didn't make it to the safe room in time. The missile was fired from a Palestinian Authority school that provides shelter for refugees in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas Launches 100+ Missiles into Israel

Rocket fire has been plaguing Israel's south for the past few days. The Iron Dome has intercepted rockets – including two headed for Tel Aviv and several that were about to fall on Israel's largest city in the South, Beersheva. Sirens have also rang in Jerusalem and as far north as Caesarea. During the barrage, over 30 missiles were launched within 30 minutes, causing fear and panic for the civilians who have been instructed to stay in or near bomb shelters. (Click here to view a map of how long people in various parts of Israel have to reach a shelter).

Please pray for an immediate STOP to the rocket attacks on Israel's civilians.

Israeli Independence Day Celebrated

Israel marked its 66th birthday with a grand national holiday. Israelis took to the parks and beaches, watched aerial performances by Israel's Air Force, and visited open army bases to celebrate. Israeli Independence Day is known for its fireworks, barbecuing and picnicking, and is a great time to celebrate Israel's growth. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attended a televised event featuring Israel’s famous singers and dancers, and honored 120 outstanding Israeli soldiers and officers for their meaningful service and contribution to the State of Israel. (Ynet)

Praise God for Israel’s 66 years – and for many more!

Passover Season Draws to a Close

The Passover season has just passed over. In Israel, the holiday involves a week-long break, lots of family Seders (special holiday observance), family outings, and abstaining from leaven. Shelves in the grocery stores that contain breads, cereals, pasta, etc. are blocked off so that these products cannot be purchased. Even the bread baskets in restaurants are filled with matzah (unleavened bread) instead! Also, during Easter weekend, thousands of pilgrims come to Jerusalem's Old City to commemorate Good Friday and Easter Sunday, remembering the days of Jesus' death and resurrection.

Please pray for Jewish people all over Israel to realize that redemption is available through the death and resurrection of Jesus, our Passover Lamb.

Largest Tunnel Found from Gaza into Israel

Israeli security forces have uncovered the largest tunnel yet discovered leading from Gaza into southern Israel. This tunnel, the fourth discovered in the past eighteen months, reaches hundreds of meters into Israeli territory and is up to twenty meters underground at some points. Tunnels such as this one have been used to smuggle weapons into Israel, as well as enabling people bent on violence and destruction to be able to enter the country. (Jerusalem Post)

Praise God that the Israeli Defense Forces found the tunnel and can prevent it from being used for future acts of violence and aggression against Israel's citizens.

Israel's New Response to Rocket Fire

In an interesting turn of events, Hamas is attempting to prevent terrorist groups from sending rockets into Israel from Gaza. They are doing this at the request of Egypt, which has warned them not to spark a flare up with Israel, as Egypt would intervene in Israel's favor. Israel then announced a new policy where instead of simply bombing an area in Gaza in response to rocket fire, Israel will use a more targeted response against those directly responsible for the attack. This requires real-time intelligence so as not to hurt civilians, and the new approach will also encourage a more favorable international view of Israel’s efforts to protect her civilians. (Ynet)

Please pray for cessation of rocket attacks, and for protection for civilians and innocent people on both sides of the conflict.

Former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon Passes Away

Ariel Sharon has passed away a month before his 86th birthday. The cause of death was organ failure; Sharon had been on life support for eight years following a major stroke in 2006. His family was by his side at the moment of his passing, and all of Israel is remembering his accomplishments as War General and Prime Minister. He fought in the War of Independence, the 1956 Sinai Campaign, the Six-Day War, and especially in the Yom Kippur War in 1973 when he led the Israel Defense Forces across the Suez Canal. Prime Minister Netanyahu praised Sharon, saying, “I think he represents a generation of Jewish warriors who arose with the resumption of our Independence.” He was buried on Monday at his ranch in southern Israel. (Jerusalem Post)

Please pray for Ariel Sharon's family as they mourn his death.
